Aristocrat Jack Bartholomew has built a new life has a Sydney policeman. His father visits but is shot by mistake. The real target bank robber Brian Pollard is later killed. Jack decides to return to Britain and find the killer.

Tour bus guide Rev. Simon Wood is murdered. Alice Westerfield asks Hurley to help find a camera she lost on his bus. Jack's family are refusing to accept him claim for 20%, so he investigates Wood but soon finds them chasing him.

Jack catches Blair breaking into Hurley's office, in search of a file that claims he went to jail for embezzlement. He's later found murdered. Eastman--who wrote the file--is also killed. Jack fears the real Blair will die soon.

Julie Columbus' old clubland friend Guy asks Jack for help. He has just been discharged from a psychiatric hospital and claims a girl he befriended is wrongly incarcerated for attempted murder when it was in fact her who was the victim.

Julie's daughter Ruby claims she saw a man fall off a roof. At the scene, the only evidence are a pair of glasses. They belong to a man named Holloway, but his wife says he's in Yorkshire.

A gang of robbers crash the Livery Hall, catered by the Santori family, and escape with antiques. Harvey Clarke is arrested as an accessory, and Lena Santori asks Jack to help prove his innocence.

Lawyer Ben Fisher asks Jack's help to find Jimmy Matthews for his wife Sophie. They divorced, he got custody of their child and then vanished. Jack tells Fisher he's surfing in Falmouth without realising he's a hired killer.

A Russian ballerina hires Jack to find her girlfriend. It seems the girl stole some of the dancer's jewelry and hocked it. Ms Dannova buys it back--without calling the police.

Bartholomew and Columbus pick up a hitchhiker, a penniless Indian escaping from an unexplained threat. The young man's sudden death causes the duo to set out on a path to a homeless shelter, a travel bureau, a health farm...and danger.

Sir Jack hires out as a bodyguard. Things are complicated by shady stock market moves, art theft, and horseplay on the polo grounds (in England--not the sports complex in Manhattan).
